Help my guttering is leaking!
Now autumn is approaching its time to sort out some simple trades tasks that might if left untreated be able to cause you a headache in the future.
Now the trees are starting to shed their leaves its worth getting that ladder out and clean the guttering. A sure way of seeing if you have an issue is to check the guttering when it rains if you can see the rain dripping as you might have a simple blockage causing the water to collect but with nowhere to go.
This recently happened to me and bearing in mind I live in a 3 storey townhouse I wasn’t about to get the ladder out risking my own safety. It transpired that I had a plant living in my guttering and also a little higher up it was blocked with all sorts of debris, that apparently the birds where storing for nest making – so glad my home was so useful!
Sometimes its really difficult to know who to call when you need that job doing as you think builders are not interested and roofers are too busy but they are always happy to help with that type of work. I even placed a sponge into the roofers hands and said whilst you are up the ladder give the fascias a clean!
Also as I found out the guttering clips often need re clipping and it’s an easy job to do. If you are an experienced DIYer than you will have no problem but if you are attempting to do this yourself do remember your safety and those of other people. Always follow ladder safety techniques which can be found on the HSE website
Now my guttering is cleared out and sparkling clean I am happy that I should not have any damp issues or expensive repairs for a while yet!
